Circle S Ranch is my top recommendation for a B&B near Lawrence; very nice place away from the city to stay. We have stayed twice in the "Post Rock" room and love the fireplace. Weekdays are usually not crowded if your looking to have more privacy. The hot tub is nice if you can open the windows to get some breeze. The breakfast was good; the server was great. The grounds are very nice (classy, rustic, flowery) what you would expect at a ranch; very nice veggie gardens too. Nice walking trails... Beautiful views...Bison, Horses, and friendly cats too. We felt very at home!read more

What am amazing location. I feel like I am in the middle of a Jane Austen novel. The scenery takes me back to my childhood where I could hear the wind arriving by the sound of the leaves on the trees. The property is beautiful. Mary, the owner is the sweetest person and attentive to detail. My older two children left wanting to book their weddings today. ?. They are 12 & 9 but I know how they feel.read more

Last Thanksgiving 7 members of our family spend 4 days and nights at CS to get our dispersed family together and celebrate the occasion. It was a truly wonderful time with great food from our start Wed evening through to Sun morning, including a Thanksgiving feast. We were integrated as much as we wished into the CS family's own celebration, with great hospitality. The various events we wanted, such as horseback riding were organized for us. We felt like we had the run of the place, including going into the kitchen for dinner leftovers! We plan on a repeat this year, virus, etc. permitting.read more

Loved our family reunion here with about 30 family members plus a lunch for 50 extended family. It was difficult getting phone calls/emails returned when making arrangements but everything worked out terrific except for the beds. Missing sheets on some beds and one "bed" that was really a double sized window seat with barely a thin foam pad. Not a bed!! read more

We visited the Circle S Ranch this last week for a reception following a cousin's funeral. It prides itself on being rustic and offering a glimpse of what it was like in the prairie back when the buffalo roamed the plains. We did not visit the bed and breakfast side of the ranch but the building in which the reception was held fit its description. I don't really have an opinion about the food because I am vegetarian and this meal was not. I do know that this establishment has been very good to our cousins through a four-year illness and would recommend them for that reason alone. I did not meet the owner but know she is a kind soul.read more

As far as a wedding is concerned, it was not good. But the inn itself was great. We rented the whole inn for the weekend & chose the middle wedding package. Everything throughout planning ran very smooth, however the day of the wedding was a disaster. Maybe it was because we did not pay for the biggest event package & we were somehow less important, or maybe it was untrained staff, or maybe it was just an off weekend. Had issues getting a hold of the staff/event coordinator. We were promised the accommodations via polaris cart for people w/disabilities and the said "it wasn't working" while they were driving it around. I was also told there would be a welcome board for guests staying at the venue for the weekend(they did it for prior weddings),but we didn't get that. There were other brides touring the venue on my wedding day. I was actually cool with this, but there was not an employee with them. So instead of being able to ask them, they followed me around & asked questions. Again, not a big deal, purely inconvenienced. It says online there is wifi, but there was basically no wifi on the property. To save money, I had a playlist on Spotify & an emcee. I was told that there was stronger wifi in the barn, it wouldn't be a problem. We rented the speakers & mic from the ranch (which we were notified as an added charge a month before) & were told this had been something past brides had done. During the reception, we couldn't get the wifi to work, which meant no music.Theresa, , the event coordinator, had left sometime during the ceremony & the staff had no clue as to the password to connect nor would they call her. Friends/family tried to resolve the issue without help, eventually I had to get upset in front of guests because we couldn't have our first dance. It was embarrassing. The staff then said it"wasn't their problem" & that it was either Spotify or weather to blame (it had stormed that evening, however the following sunny day the wifi wouldn't connect). In retrospect, I should have hired a DJ that didn't need wifi.I was trying to save money since we paid $10k up front to them. The staff was extremely unhelpful & were rude - if they were at all visible. Bartender was not in a good mood. The staff rolled their eyes at husband when asked for them to give us our cake structure back(we had to return them to baker), said they had already thrown them away. The barn flooded on the back wall, where the bridal party/cake are set up. I didn't realize it flooded until after the cake was cut & I sat down. The flooding & dirt in the barn gave my dress an awful grey ring & ruined my dress. For the money we paid/the way were treated,it's upsetting. I felt absolutely no stress whatsoever up until the reception & then felt nothing BUT stress trying fix things myself at my own reception.read more

We were there for a "formal" wedding. The staff was courteous, welcoming and attentive; the treatment you expect from a family business. I don't think they were prepared for a party of that size, however. They had one buffet table, and my table was invited to visit last, as we smelled the food the entire time we waited (which was lengthy). They also had problems cutting the interior tier of the cake - it looked like a dump cake on my plate. Not an issue for me, but an indication of a work in progress. Once they finish renovations of their party barn and have a better handle on how to feed a crowd efficiently, this will be a much sought-after venue for weddings.read more

Our family had a wedding at the Circle S Ranch last fall. For the positives, the lodge is very nice and set up well. It worked very well for the wedding party. The food there was very good. The barn used for the wedding chapel worked very well and has adequate seating for about 160.Our negatives center around the reception. First, the facility and their support capabilities are really only adequate for about 150. Our group was larger than that and therefore, impacted our experience. The noise levels were too high for the acoustics; they needed two serving lines instead of one because dinner took well over an hour to serve; they needed more staffing to bus the tables; they needed larger plates or an extra plate for salads; and they needed to staff the desert bar to assure servings/plates/silverware were available. If you decide to use this facility, be very specific on the types and brands of your alcoholic beverage expectations if you have an open bar. Finally, if you expect people with difficulties walking, you need to plan in advance how to get them to the chapel and especially from the chapel to the reception.read more

Staff was unhelpful and barn was hot. Lodge was hot. Plates were left out all day with food on them at lodge. Drinks were hot. Water never refilled. One person busting tables. And didnt busy much of them. Bar tender rude. No severs. Ran out of food. Small speaker at ceremony site. Walk down to ceremony was steep on lose grave path. Stairs for bride were STEEP AND NARROW. bench's at site had no backs on them. No water at ceremony site on hot day. No Accommodation's from staff for the elderly to ceremony site. Parking was very minimal. Staff invisible at wedding. Breakfast from wedding day was reheated and severed following morning. Stairs at lodge were steep, with three story lodge. 1/2 mile walk to ceremony site from lodge. But thank god my sisters in laws wedding was still beautiful and had fun.read more

UNRELIABLE, UNDEPENDABLE! Booked this place well ahead of time for a couple of nights since I had a conference and presentation at University of Kansas. I was sent all the confirmations, approved the proposal on their event planner and a welcome letter too, by their DIRECTOR of events; Diane Little, only to find out, just the day before, that the room was no longer available. Knowing that I was travelling with my 8+ months pregnant wife, they still gave it away after everything was confirmed. And all they had to say was "sorry".I have traveled to many countries for conferences etc, but have never come across such unreliable, undependable staff. Wouldn't tick off the "star" if this lets me post without giving it a star.read more
